SHUTDOWN
On July 26, BitMart announced an orderly wind-down of its entire trading platform after nine years. New registrations, deposits and trading stopped immediately. All trading ends August 26, 2026, and operations cease entirely on January 31, 2027. Withdrawals stay open until that date but may trigger additional compliance and KYC checks, which is exactly the kind of friction that turns a deadline into a scramble. The BMX token fell about 58% on the news. We track the BitMart Card at up to 5.5% USDT across an eight-tier VIP system in 115+ countries, which made it one of the more aggressive rate ceilings in our database. That ceiling is now attached to a platform with a published expiry date. BitMart has not issued separate guidance on what happens to card balances or pending settlements, and the card is funded from the exchange account, so the two are not really separable. If you hold one: withdraw now, stop topping up, and treat any cashback still accruing as a rounding error against the balance you need to get out. We are leaving the card marked active pending an explicit card-level notice, but plan around the exchange timeline, not ours.

REGULATION
The Crypto and Digital Assets All-Party Parliamentary Group opened an inquiry on July 21 into UK banks restricting or blocking access for crypto firms and their customers. The numbers behind it are the story: reports put nearly two in five payments to crypto exchanges as blocked by UK banks, with at least one major platform seeing around £1B in rejected transactions. Evidence collection closes August 31, 2026, and the group says it will benchmark UK practice against the US, Hong Kong, Australia and the EU. This one is upstream of every UK card in our database. Kraken, Wirex, Curve, Revolut, Xapo and Bitpanda all depend on a customer being able to move money from a normal bank account into a crypto platform in the first place. A card with no fees and good cashback is worthless if the top-up leg gets declined. Our read: an inquiry is not a rule, and evidence gathering that closes in September will not change anyone's Saturday grocery run. But it is the first time the debanking problem has been treated as a policy question rather than a customer service complaint, and that is how these things start moving.

SHUTDOWN
SecondFi, EMURGO's Cardano wallet, is closing permanently after attackers drained 16.1 million ADA (roughly $2.4M) from 374 wallets. The exploit was a deterministic nonce error in transaction signing, which let attackers derive private keys from data already sitting on-chain. SlowMist estimates total losses could exceed $20M once NFTs are counted. EMURGO handed the TOKEN2049 organization over to the Cardano Foundation in the fallout, and remaining SecondFi operations are being pointed at recovery: wallet export tools in early August, a recovery portal later. We added the SecondFi card in May as an announced product, a self-custodial Visa built with Wirex covering 130+ countries, with a waitlist opened at Money20/20 Bangkok in April. It never made it past that waitlist. There is a lesson here that has nothing to do with Cardano. Self-custodial cards move the security burden from the provider's balance sheet to the wallet's cryptography, and that is genuinely better right up until the signing code has a bug. Keys derived from a bad nonce are gone the same way custodial funds are gone, except there is no company balance sheet to make anyone whole.

LAUNCH
Robinhood began issuing invitations for the Platinum Card on July 22, four and a half months after the March announcement. The fee is $695 a year, the headline earn is 10% back on hotels and rental cars booked through the Robinhood Banking app, and credit limits run up to five times the Gold Card. Invitations are going to the highest-spending Gold cardholders first, with broader rollout expected over the coming months. The physical card is plated in 27 grams of 99.9% pure platinum, and Function health testing is the flagship perk. Worth being precise about what this is, because the crypto framing gets applied loosely: the Platinum Card does not spend crypto. It is a conventional premium credit card whose rewards can be redeemed for crypto at $0.01 per point, which is a different product from the exchange-funded debit cards that make up most of our database. Compare it to what it is actually competing with, an Amex Platinum at a similar fee, and the perk stack is credible. Compare it to a Kraken or Nexo card and it is not really the same category at all. We updated the entry on July 24 to reflect the live rollout and the reworked perks.

Market Context
Three centralized exchanges have announced closures in under a month: AscendEX on July 1, BitMEX on July 23, and now BitMart on July 26. RootData counts 99 crypto projects shut down so far in 2026. The usual explanation is the bear market, and that is part of it, but the timing points at compliance cost. MiCA's transition period ended July 1 and California's DFAL licensing regime took effect the same day, and running a compliant exchange in both Europe and the US is now a fixed cost that only works above a certain size. What is odd is that money is still arriving. Zero Hash and Marqeta signed a stablecoin issuing deal in the same week BitMart announced its wind-down. Those are not contradictory: the capital is going into the payment rails, not into the mid-tier exchanges sitting on top of them. If you hold a card from a smaller exchange, this is the week to notice that your cashback rate and your counterparty risk are two different columns. A card funded from an exchange balance is a claim on that exchange, and the 5.5% ceiling on the BitMart Card was never worth much if the balance behind it becomes a withdrawal queue with a January deadline. That is not an argument for self-custody being safe either, as SecondFi's nonce bug demonstrated in the most expensive way available. It is an argument for knowing which one you are exposed to.
